What to do while you wait
- Check the obvious first. Another door, a window you can safely reach, a family member with a spare key, or a neighbour holding one.
- Condo or landed? Ask building management whether they keep a list of vetted locksmiths. Many do.
- Digital lock dead? Many digital locks have an emergency power terminal under the keypad (often a 9V battery contact). Check your lock's manual before calling.
- Never let anyone drill first. A good locksmith tries non-destructive entry first and tells you before any drilling, because drilling means a new lock on the bill.
